Pathumthani Fragrant Rice

Pathumthani Fragrant Rice

Descripción del Producto

Pathumthani Fragrant Rice (Pathum Thani 1) is a Thai aromatic variety developed at the Pathum Thani Rice Research Centre and released for commercial cultivation in 2000. It was bred to deliver Hom Mali-like fragrance and a soft cooked texture without the photoperiod sensitivity of Hom Mali, which means it can be grown across multiple planting cycles rather than a single annual harvest. For importers this translates into steadier year-round availability and a lower price point than GI-certified Hom Mali, while still meeting buyer expectations for Thai fragrant rice. It is widely sold internationally under the broader Thai jasmine rice description, and is a common choice for food service and mid-tier retail where aroma matters but Hom Mali pricing does not fit the shelf.

Descripción del Grano

Long, slender translucent white grains closely resembling Hom Mali. Cooks soft, moist and slightly clingy with a clear but gentler jasmine-type fragrance.

Preguntas frecuentes — Pathumthani Fragrant Rice

Is Pathumthani rice the same as Thai jasmine rice?
It is a Thai fragrant rice and is commonly sold under the general jasmine rice description, but it is a different variety from Hom Mali (KDML 105). Pathum Thani 1 was bred for year-round cultivation and higher yield. It delivers a similar soft texture and a jasmine-type aroma that is generally gentler than certified Hom Mali.
Why choose Pathumthani over Hom Mali?
Availability and price. Hom Mali is photoperiod sensitive and harvested once a year, so supply and pricing move with that single harvest. Pathumthani can be grown across multiple cycles, which makes supply steadier through the year and the landed cost lower — useful for food service and contract supply where the fragrance matters but the Hom Mali premium does not fit.
Can it be labelled as jasmine rice for export?
Labelling rules vary by destination market. It is widely traded as Thai fragrant or Thai jasmine-type rice, but it cannot be sold as certified Thai Hom Mali, which requires TAS 4001 compliance and the Ministry of Commerce certification mark. We recommend confirming the labelling requirements of your destination market, and we will supply documentation to match.
What broken percentages are available?
5%, 10% and 15% broken grades are available. 5% is the usual retail grade; 10% and 15% are common for food service and price-sensitive markets.
